Countless people have worked full-time, temporary, or volunteer jobs at Custer State Park since it opened in 1913. This silent film from the early 1950's shows staff engaged in cooking, handling bed linens, and office work. There are also several shots of staff members gathered for a meal.
All of the buildings shown in this section of the film are still standing as of 2015: The cafe and store, the old gas station next to the State Game Lodge, and the Lodge itself where staff gathered for a group photo.
Custer State Park resorts - including concessions - are managed by a private company. The company hires about 300 people annually for seasonal jobs, April through October. Other State Park jobs are State of South Dakota positions.
