Delmer J. Dooley was a turret gunner during WWII. This piece of flak, which is anti-aircraft artillery, missed Mr. Dooley's left ear by inches and was embedded in and later removed from the turret. Mr. Dooley commented, "The sky was full of it!"

The reunion photo above was taken in September 1992 at Geiger Field, Spokane, Washington, 301st Bombardment Group, 353rd Bomb Squadron (Delmer J. Dooley is seated 2nd row, 6th from the left.)
