Multiple Agencies Respond to Wildland Fire on Pine Ridge

Fire

A wildfire 1-mile East of the Calico Community on the Pine Ridge Reservation has been contained.

According to the Oglala Sioux Tribe Emergency Management, the fire was started on July 31 and is estimated to be between 10 to 15 acres and threatened multiple structures.

Evacuations orders were put in place for residents of the community but were later lifted as firefighters got the upper hand on the fire.

Multiple agencies responded on the tribal, state, and federal level. And even used air support.

Crews are still working in the area doing cleanup work and structure protection.
