Parents can now test a safety devices before spending money on it. An expanded center in Sioux Falls allows the testing of products as a way to keep kids safer in the home.
The Sanford’s Child service office has provided health and safety services to parents and care givers for almost two decades. Recently it expanded to include a Child Safety Center specifically focused on household safety. Kim Overby is the director of women and children’s community programing at Sanford health. Overby said they are working to increase safety awareness to prevent accidents.
“I think as anything, as we progress and learn more we get smarter about how to do things better and safety is certainly something that has been an issue. There have been accidents as long back as you and I can remember with children and we want to prevent those injuries if at all possible. And now we have more awareness of how to do that,” said Overby.
Overby said keeping an eye on children is difficult even in the home and it is good to have the extra assistance from safety devices. The Safety center focuses on household safety through the inquisitive eyes of a child to better protect children from injury.
