Salem residents have been battling some of the hottest days of summer with a limited supply of water. After three days of water restrictions, the city's broken wells are scheduled to be fixed soon.
By the end of the day, all three wells in the city of Salem are expected to be functional. That also means that the water restriction, which was issued Monday, may be lifted this evening. Lori Heumiller is the finance officer for the City of Salem. She says that following a well-contractor's Tuesday inspection, repair on the two broken wells is underway.
"The pump motor needed to replaced and that has been done and all the wiring down to it needed to be replaced also, so that one well is completely fixed but it's not on line yet. And the second well that was down, the motor needed to be replaced and the pump so we had to find a pump and run and get it so that is now currently being installed along with the pipe casing and all that," Heumiller says.
Heumiller says officials hope the two broken wells will be up and running late afternoon or evening, following some electrical work and a system flush. The city will alert citizens when the water restriction is lifted.
