Phones connected with the Midcontinent Communications network have been restored after about a three hour outage Monday morning.
Paige Pearson Meyer is the director of media and public relations for the Sioux Falls-based company.
"We experienced a fiber cut mid-morning between Yankton and Sioux Falls that affected our phone services throughout our footprint."
Pearson Meyer says backup equipment also failed Monday morning.
Areas affected by the outage included Sioux Falls, Rapid City, Yankton, and Vermillion. Midco also provides services to parts of North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Kansas.
Pearson Meyer says company representatives will investigate the incident.
