Recapping legislative session, and visiting SD’s 64 county courthouses

On today's show

Lawmakers want more oversight into state spending of federal money. That’s because state is anticipating billions in more from Washington. Governor Kristi Noem is critical of the idea, saying it creates a full-time legislature. SDPB’s Lee Strubinger has more.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has upended peace in Europe, shaken the global oil markets, and sent millions of civilians fleeing war. We talk with U.S. Senator John Thune about Congressional efforts to support Ukraine, why gasoline prices are impacted even though the U.S. uses very little Russian oil, and an American response to a massive humanitarian crisis.

Dakota Political Junkies Jon Schaff and Jonathan Ellis recap the legislative session and look ahead to South Dakota's political horizon.

The 50th anniversary of the 1972 Black Hills Flood is June 9th. It’s a time to honor the 238 lives lost, and it also brings a flood of memories for survivors. Every week between now and the anniversary, SDPB's Seth Tupper brings us stories from those survivors, in their own words.

Trips to county courthouses can often be mundane. You might stop by to pay property taxes or update your vehicle registration. There are treasures to be found in each of South Dakota’s 64 county courthouses. In the new edition of South Dakota magazine, you can travel to the far corners of the Rushmore state and see what these depositories of local history have to offer. We welcome Managing Editor John Andrew back to In the Moment.
