Summer with the Symphony: Scheherazade

This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

This summer, SDPB presents special performances during "In the Moment" called "Summer with the Symphony."

It's a series of listening experiences sprinkled throughout the summer months offering the most recent performances from the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, recorded live in Great Hall of the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.

Today: a story you probably know, even if you don't know the melody. She was a storyteller whose gift for suspense protected her (and other women) from the violence of a vengeful leader. Delta David Gier, music director and conductor of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra provides listening notes, followed by all four movements of Scheherazade.

Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherezade, performed by the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Maestro Delta David Gier and recorded live at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on October 28, 2023.

Lori Walsh is the host and senior producer of In the Moment.
