Abortion in South Dakota: History & context

On today's show...

First, we take a look at the history of abortion in America. Elizabeth Dias, co-author of "The Fall of Roe: The Rise of a New America," shares her research with SDPB (1:11 to 11:26).

Dias also discusses her visit to South Dakota to tour the state's last abortion clinic in the weeks before it closed its doors.

Michael Card, Ph.D., then brings us a lesson on local history. He shares the long and sometimes surprising legacy of abortion in South Dakota.

Card is professor emeritus of political science at the University of South Dakota and is our Dakota Political Junkie today (11:26 to 22:24).

After a deep dive into the history of abortion, we explore the emotions of the issue.

Kelsey Pritchard from the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America shares her personal story and how she formed her views on abortion (22:25 to 36:00).

Nancy Turbak Berry and Stephanie Pochop bring us a different perspective. Both are South Dakota lawyers and co-chairs of the Freedom Amendment Coalition (36:00 to 48:40).
