House Seeks Ravnsborg Impeachment Delay

Capitol

House legislative leaders say a recent court ruling will delay their consideration  of articles of impeachment against Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg.

Republican Speaker of the House Spencer Gosch says a  ruling in Hyde County complicates a transparent impeachment inquiry.

“And his order that all members of state government not release the evidence included in his order,” Gosch says. “We felt that public proceedings would be difficult to do. That being the case, that’s best that arguably these premature articles that were filed be held off until the judicial system can do its job.”

Republican and Democratic leaders in the house agree on waiting until the court process plays out.

Last week, Judge John Brown ordered materials related to a fatal crash removed from a state website.

The investigative documents include audio and video evidence from the crash last year when Ravnsborg’s car hit and killed a pedestrian.

Republican Representative Will Mortenson is bringing the impeachment articles. He says he’s disappointed at the delay,  but understands the desire for full transparency.
