President Biden’s “Build Back Better” initiative is a $3 trillion plan that dedicates at least $1 trillion for roads and bridges. Representative Dusty Johnson has criticized the plan for being too expensive.
The South Dakota Republican says Biden’s plan is expensive.
“You know, the president isn’t calling for a $300 billion plan. He’s talked about a $4 trillion plan, or 13 times more money than the last highway bill. Now, I think he’s defining infrastructure a lot more broadly.”
Johnson says the spending would add to the national debt.
“At some point, all of this is borrowed money from the Chinese and I think we want to make sure what we’re doing is targeted… it is going to be an appropriate role for the government, it is going to help the economy remain strong and help us build forward for the future. I am a little concerned about the price tag, but I’m sure we’re going to be looking into that.”
Proponents say the initiative will create jobs and boost the economy.
