In their own words: Legislating golf cart rules

This segment originally aired on In the Moment on SDPB Radio.

Every legislative session features debate on serious subjects, including health issues, taxes, and educational and voting guidelines.

But of the over 400 bills introduced, there are some that may not have a statewide impact. They may be hyperlocal issues that can only be addressed in state statute.

Such is the case of House Bill 1215. The bill allows golf carts to operate on some state highways.

The legislature ultimately approved the measure, but it faced some challenges along the way - including stiff debate in the Senate Transportation Committee. Listen to that debate in their own words.

Lori Walsh is a special correspondent with SDPB and host of the "In the Moment" podcast.
