Sens. Mike Rounds and John Thune are leading an effort to fund tribal law enforcement programs in the 2025 fiscal year.

They signed on to a bipartisan letter requesting more funding in next year’s appropriations bill.

The letter recognizes the historical under funding of tribal law enforcement agencies, and the growing threat of organized crime on reservations.

Rounds also requested for the Bureau of Indian Affairs to consider opening a tribal law enforcement training center in South Dakota to mitigate staffing shortages on reservations.
