South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is joining colleagues from 23 other states in opposition of a gag order request against former President Donald Trump.
A special prosecutor is requesting a gag order to prohibit Trump from criticizing a raid of his Mar-a-Lago home.
The attorneys general signed a joint letter asking the courts to deny the request, saying it is unclear and violates Trump’s rights under the first amendment.
Jackley said if approved, the order would prohibit a free presidential election because voters would not be able to hear what a candidate says heading into an election.
