Exploring Midwestern identity & political power

Middle West Review

This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

The nation has turned its eyes to the Midwest this presidential election. Former President Donald Trump has selected Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as his running mate and Vice President Kamala Harris has chosen Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as hers.

A country tuned in to coastal political power is reckoning with a political surge from the center from two very different candidates.

Jon K. Lauck is editor of the Middle West Review and several books, including "The Interior Borderlands: Regional Identity in the Midwest and Great Plains" and "The Good Country: A History of the American Midwest."

He joins us to talk about Midwestern identities in politics.
