Zitkála-Šá, (Red Bird) was a Yankton Dakota Sioux woman born in South Dakota. A writer, musician, and activist, she supported women’s rights and civil rights for Native Americans, including the 1924 Indian Citizenship Act, which gave Native Americans the right to vote in the United States.
Zitkála-Šá is featured in one of 26 short films produced by UNLADYLIKE 2020, profiling American women from the turn of the 20th century and contemporary women who follow in their footsteps.
