This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

Anne Fennell, Ph.D., is a distinguished professor in the Department of Agronomy, Horticulture and Plant Science at South Dakota State University. She's helped develop grapevine varieties that grow better in the cold and under stress.

So if you've ever raised a glass of wine made with North American grapes, you may have raised a glass to an SDSU professor.

We ask her why she finds grapevines so fascinating and why the grape was one of the first in line to get its genome fully sequenced.

The American Society of Plant Biologists has named Fennell one of the 25 most inspiring women in plant biology.
