Sioux Falls Set To Host 2019 Boys State Tennis Tournament

The 88th Annual Boy State Tennis Tournament will be held in Sioux Falls and Brandon, May 16-17-18. Twenty-four teams have entered the tournament. Champions will be determined in six singles flights and three doubles flights over the course of the three days. Previous champions participating in the tournament are as follows:

Sam Dobbs from Sioux Falls Lincoln will try to defend his title at Flight 1 and Chris Harris from Sioux Falls Washington will try to defend his title at Flight 2. There will be a new champion at Flight 3, 4 and 5. Last year’s champion at Flight 4, Rahul Giri from Sioux Falls Lincoln has moved to Flight 3. Dawson Segrist, Rapid City Stevens, champion at Flight 5 last year has also moved to Flight 3. At Flight 6, Gavin Schmit of Sioux Falls Lincoln will try and defend his title.

In Flight 1 Doubles, last year’s champion Aiden Nguyen from Sioux Falls Roosevelt will have a new partner, Rupp Darin. There will be new champions at Flight 2 Doubles due to graduation. There will also be a new champion at Flight 3 Doubles. Last year’s champion, Spencer Titus from Aberdeen Roncalli will have a new partner, Joseph Goetz and they are playing Flight 1 Doubles.

Sioux Falls Lincoln will be going for six in a row. A team champion has been determined the past 48 years of the state tennis tournament.

First round singles matches begin at 8:00 a.m. with Flights 1 and 2 Singles at McKennan Park, Flights 3 and 4 Singles at Sioux Falls Washington and Flights 5 and 6 Singles at Brandon Valley. Doubles matches will start at 12:45 p.m. with Flight 1 at McKennan Park, Flight 2 at Sioux Falls Washington and Flight 3 at Brandon Valley.

Matches continue on Friday at all three locations at 8:00 a.m.. On Saturday, play resumes at McKennan Park for all flights starting at 8:00 a.m.
