How To Watch #SDCheerDance20

State Cheer and Dance schedule

Rapid City is hosting the high school state cheer and dance competition on October 23-24 from the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Nearly 800 kids from 39 South Dakota schools are participating at the event this year.

The event will start at 12 pm MT on Friday with Class A, and then resume action at 11 am MT on Saturday for Class AA.

Because of pandemic protocols, the state cheer and dance competition, which was originally slated to take place at Rapid City Stevens high school, is moved to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Along with the bigger venue helping fans spread out, the South Dakota High School Activities Association is going with a Pod setup to also help limit fans.

“The pods are something that came about new this year as far with cheer and dance – just to try and get teams to come in and then teams to leave, so that we don’t have that exposure of everyone in the facility at the same time,” explained SDHSAA assistant executive director Jo Auch. “We’re asking the fans to come and enjoy their team that is competing in that pod, and then when that pod is over, we’re asking them to leave and wait for the results from pod two.”

Basically, fans are allowed to watch the pod that their group is performing in, but will have to leave the facility when the other pod is performing. The awards ceremony for the event will also NOT take place. Results will be announced at the conclusion of both days both online at sdpb.org/cheerdance via the SDHSAA.

Both days of the state cheer and dance competition are televised live on SDPB2-TV and online at sdpb.org/cheerdance
