West River Results from 2022 SD Short Course Swimming Championships

The 2022 SD Short Course Swimming Championships concluded this past weekend (3-6 March) in Mitchell. Mitchell hosted the 13-19 age groups, while Pierre hosted the 12 and Under age groups the previous weekend (7-9 March). West River swim teams and their swimmers represented the region well in all events, all age groups, punctuated by team percentage awards and individual honors.

Sturgis Stingrays stunned their competition with increased depth. Their six swimmers realized 24 personal records across 30 races swum.  All six athletes qualified for one or more finals events earning the team 16 medal placings.

Nate Wek is currently the sports content producer and sports and rec beat reporter for South Dakota Public Broadcasting. He is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism Broadcasting and a minor in Leadership. From 2010-2013 Nate was the Director of Gameday Media for the Sioux Falls Storm (Indoor Football League) football team. He also spent 2012 and 2013 as the News and Sports Director of KSDJ Radio in Brookings, SD. Nate, his wife Sarah, and three sons, Braxan, Jordy, and Anders live in Canton, SD.
