The University of South Dakota names Todd Lee as its next men’s basketball coach. Lee is from Huron and graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1986.
He returns to USD after several coaching stints in the college and professional ranks.
For the last five years, Lee served as an associate head coach at Grand Canyon University. He helped the Lopes win more than 100 games in his time there.
Lee was head coach at Kentucky Wesleyan College for eight seasons before he went to GCU. He led the Panthers to five appearances in the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Lee received Coach of the Year honors in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2008 and won the Midwest Region Coach of the Year award from the National Association of Basketball Coaches in 2010.
He won an NCAA Division II National Championship as an assistant with California State University – Bakersfield in 1997 and has other collegiate stops at the University of San Diego and the University of California – Irvine.
Lee was an assistant coach with the Rapid City Thrillers of the Continental Basketball League for two seasons.
University of South Dakota officials will formally introduce Lee at a news conference set for 1 p.m. CT Friday at the Dakota Dome in Vermillion.
