Welcome to the Native American Studies Session. During this session, you will learn about SDPB’s Native American Studies resources. SDPB provides educational content like the Tatanka: A Way of Life Lesson Plan, winter count activity ideas, and programs like Lost Bird of Wounded Knee.

This video resource explores how the reintroduction of Tatanka to the Native People helps them reclaim their identity, culture, and traditions.
Learn the names and locations of the Native American reservations in South Dakota and complete an interesting activity.
During this lesson, the students will create a winter count image by identifying an important event that occurred in their lives during the school year.
Learn about the experiences of Native American children, some as young as five, who were forcibly removed from their families and placed in government-run boarding schools in this video adapted from We Shall Remain: Wounded Knee | AMERICAN EXPERIENCE.
