In a special edition of Talk of the Nation, host Neal Conan talks about the future of deaf education and the controversy surrounding the appointment of the successor to Gallaudet University President I. King Jordan.

Jordan was scheduled to be on the program but decided not to participate due to the escalating crisis at Gallaudet. (Read his statement.)

The show examines the importance of Gallaudet to the deaf community. Instant captioning was made available on the Web, and the show included members of the deaf and hard-of-hearing community who e-mailed and called in.
