Astronomers studying Jupiter discovered it has 12 additional moons

STEVE INSKEEP, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep. Astronomers studying Jupiter discovered it has 12 additional moons. Scientists with the International Astronomical Union used telescopes based in Hawaii and Chile and found the moons may be fragments of larger moons that collided with one another in the past. Jupiter is the solar system leader with 92 confirmed moons. Planet Earth has just one, though as it shone full and bright over the weekend, it felt like one was enough. It's MORNING EDITION.
