A pool in southern Sioux Falls is trending towards finally becoming reality.
The city council has been discussing a pool on that side of the town since its 2012 plan.
David Barranco is the Southeast District city councilor. He said the pool’s location is coming sooner rather than later.
“I think that in understanding, and this is still a little bit in flux, but my understanding is that we would be appropriating money immediately, so that the land acquisition would happen immediately. The reason that is important to me is I don’t want this to be pie-in-the-sky, you know six, seven years down the road, a great idea. I want this to be actually happening. I want the voters, and the families, and the people that want to swim to know that it’s underway. That it’s real,” Barranco said.
He also said money is going to play a factor in the pool size.
“I think that moving the timetable up may necessitate a smaller footprint and may necessitate something that’s more of a neighborhood pool than a big water park. And if it’s ideal, it’s perfect, then I’m going to fight for the money that’s necessary to get it. But, at the same time, if we can find something that’s a really good bargain then that’s better for the voters, that’s better for the taxpayers,” Barranco said.
He said the pool is to be completed by 2029.
