A South Dakota representative is resigning just as the 2025 legislative session is set to begin.
Representative-elect Herman Otten said he’s declining to take his seat for District 6, which includes northern Lincoln County.
Otten cited personal and family reasons in a social media post to constituents.
Otten had served in the Legislature for over a decade.
Gov. Kristi Noem’s office is seeking nominations to fill the vacancy. The deadline to file is Jan. 24. Those interested are directed to email [email protected].
