The South Dakota Highway Patrol is planning more than a dozen sobriety checkpoints in February.

The checkpoints will take place in 15 counties, including Beadle, Brown, Clay, Codington, Davison, Day, Jones, Lawrence, Lyman, Meade, Minnehaha, Moody/Lake, Pennington, Sanborn and Stanley counties.

Officials say these monthly checkpoints aim to cut down on drinking and driving.
