Rollout of new vehicle registration system could cause delays

SDPB

South Dakota vehicle owners might see a delay in the state’s vehicle registration system in the coming weeks due to a statewide update.

The South Dakota Department of Revenue’s Motor Vehicle Division is launching a new title and registration system, called 605Drive, on Feb. 17.

The multi-phase transition begins Friday, Feb. 7, according to a Department of Revenue spokesperson. At that point, registration renewals will not be available online at mySDCar.sgov or at DMVNow Kiosks. Registration renewals will continue to be available at county offices through Feb. 13.

Then, between Feb. 14 and Feb. 16, no vehicle registrations or title transfers will be available, including at county offices. This could also cause delays for dealerships and banks in the vehicle purchasing process.

Department of Revenue officials recommend vehicle owners renew registration early to avoid delays.

Once the new system launches, officials said access to registrations will be available at county treasurer offices, DMVNow Kiosks and through a new online platform on the Department of Revenue's website.
