The South Dakota Highway Patrol is planning over a dozen sobriety checkpoints during the month of April.

Troopers are working with local law enforcement to conduct checkpoints in 14 counties, including Beadle, Bennett, Brule, Butte, Clay, Codington, Davison, Day, Hughes, Meade, Minnehaha, Moody, Pennington and Walworth counties.

Department of Public Safety officials said these checkpoints are designed to discourage people from drunk driving.
