The poet and Augustana University writing professor's new book is Library of the Mind: New & Selected Poems.

The Brown Bag Book Club on In the Moment gives listeners the opportunity to stop in at the Sioux Falls Studios, 601 N. Phillips Ave., watch the interview, and have some further discussion with Lori and Patrick after the show (plently of parking is available!). Bring your lunch and enjoy the literary conversation!

Sam Kean and Norma Wilson & Jerry Wilson - Monday, July 1 (SDPB Sioux Falls Studios)

The Sioux Falls native and author of The Disappearing Spoon (Back Bay Books, 2011); The Violinist's Thumb (Little, Brown and Company, 2012)and Caesar's Last Breath (Back Bay Books, 2017) has a new book titled The Bastard Brigade: The True Story of the Renegade Scientists and Spies Who Sabotaged the Nazi Atomic Bomb (Little, Brown and Company, 2019). Sam joins Lori Walsh in studio beginning at 11:00am (10 MT). Then wife-and-husband writers from Vermillion discuss their latest books, including Norma’s poetry collection Frog Creek Road (Scurfpea, 2019) and Jerry’s novel Eden to Orizaba (Floricanto Press, 2018). Norma and Jerry are at the Sioux Falls Studios begining at noon Central (11MT).

 

July 8 through July 10, In the Moment’s Brown Bag Book Club moves to Rapid City. The public is invited to be a part of the live, in-studio audience at SDPB’s Black Hills Studios, 415 Main Street, Rapid City.

 

Linda Hasselstrom – Monday, July 8 (SDPB Black Hills Studios)

Hasselstrom, who lives on a ranch near Hermosa, SD, discusses writing and her book Gathering from the Grassland: A Plains Journal (High Plains Press, 2017).

Rick Kahler – Tuesday, July 9 (SDPB Black Hills Studios)

Kahler, a Rapid City-based financial planner, authored Wired for Wealth: Change the Money Mindsets That Keep You Trapped and Unleash Your Wealth Potential (Health Communications Inc., 2010).

Rachel Headley & Meg Manke – Wednesday, July 10 (SDPB Black Hills Studios)

The authors of iX Leadership: Create High-Five Cultures and Guide Transformation (Find Your Way Press, 2018), discuss their theory of creating an Internal Experience (iX) to keep the best people, enable true innovation and creativity, and implement change quickly and effectively.

Sally Roesch Wagner – Monday, July 22 (SDPB Sioux Falls Studios)

Dr. Roesch Wagner is an author, lecturer and activist who founded the Matilda Joslyn Gage Center for Social Justice Dialogue in Fayetteville, NY. Her most recent book The Women’s Suffrage Movement, (Penguin Classics, 2019), contains a forward by Gloria Steinem and which Forbes said, “Editor of this [...] intersectional anthology, Sally Roesch Wagner, highlights some monumental moments and untold stories from history that paved the way for women to hit the polls.”

Phyllis Cole-Dai & Ruby Wilson – Monday, July 29 (SDPB Sioux Falls Studios)

Cole-Dai wrote Beneath the Same Stars: A Novel of The 1862 U.S.-Dakota War (One Sky Press, 2018) and together with Ruby Wilson edited Poetry of Presence: An Anthology of Mindfulness Poems (Grayson Books, 2017).

Jim Reese – Monday, August 5 (SDPB Sioux Falls Studios)

Reese is Associate Professor of English & Director of the Great Plains Writers’ Tour at Mount Marty College in Yankton. He is the author of Really Happy (NYQ Books, 2014) and the forthcoming Bone Chalk and poetry collection Dancing Room Only (Stephen F. Austin University Press).

Dr. Rick Holm – Monday, August 12 (SDPB Sioux Falls Studios)

Dr. Rick Holm hosts the TV program On Call with the Prairie Doc. Holm’s most recent book, Life’s Final Season: A Guide for Aging and Dying with Grace, which recounts dealing with his own pancreatic cancer and provides a unique perspective on how to prepare for and face the dying process with grace.
