While attending the University of North Texas' College of Music, Roger Blevins, Jr. asked a few dorm mates to jam on some old soul and funk tunes. Blevins quickly found himself surrounded by an eight-piece band. After a successful stint in the Live Capital of the World, Mingo Fishtrap hit the festival circuit, which carried their unique blend of music from Portland, Oregon, to Portland, Maine and everywhere between. The band has performed with the likes of Robert Randolph, MOFRO & Galactic, and Trombone Shorty, along with legends such as Sting and Earth Wind and Fire. Texas Music Magazine called Mingo Fishtrap "the space where melodic pop meets gritty Memphis soul, with a twist of N'awlins funk." The band includes Zol Waterhouse on trombone, Dan Bechdolt on alto and tenor saxophone, Steve Butts on trumpet, Roger Blevins, Sr. on bass, Mikel Urdy on percussion, Chip Vayenas on vocals and drums, Dan Farnsworth on vocals, organ, and keyboard, and Roger Blevins, Jr. on vocals and guitar.
