Dr. Elaine Jane Cole is at USD for a 3:30 talk today (11/18) in 207 Beacom Hall on “The Messy Science of Sustainability: Testing a Behavior Change Model to Address Environmental Problems.” She manages the Rock Creek Organic Learning Garden on Portland Community College’s Rock Creek campus. The garden features composting bins and a sustainability designed straw bale tool shed. Food from the garden provides a partial supply for the cafeteria and is also donated to local charities. The cafeteria staff harvests pre-consumer waste before it’s then to an on-site worm bin. From there it’s composted and returned to the garden.
