The Deadwood Mountain Grand Resort Casino is one of five venues across the country nominated as 2014 Casino of the Year – Small Capacity by the Academy of Country Music.
The newly created category and industry award is presented to an outstanding casino with a maximum capacity of 4,000 seats and is selected by a professional panel of judges.
Spokesperson Susan Kightlinger was aware the Deadwood Mountain Grand was in contention, but says she was amazed on hearing they’d made it to the top five.
“Just to be recognized in that big of an arena, if you will, is incredibly exciting,” Kightlinger comments. “We feel great about it and it’s been really kind of fun as well, because seeing Deadwood Mountain Grand or Deadwood, South Dakota in this whole list of other nominees, you know, at this caliber…it’s just gotta’ be good for all of us…not just for Deadwood Mountain Grand but for Deadwood in general.”
Susan Kightlinger adds that the Deadwood Mountain Grand wouldn’t have been considered for the nomination without the support of those who’ve patronized the venue since it opened in 2011.
The 49th annual Academy of Country Music Awards show is slated to be held on April 6.
