The Good Lovelies

This week, we're featuring the Canadian trio, The Good Lovelies, recorded live at the Matthews Opera House in Spearfish on January 25th, 2014. How the Good Lovelies got together is a bit of a mystery. Each member has a different story on how the band met, but whatever the story, the group realized that they had formed something special in 2006. Part folk-roots, part Western Swing, the trio relies on three-part harmonies, clever songs, and on-stage banter drawn from an endless succession of comedic adventures on the road. Since 2006, The Good Lovelies have been making waves across Canada, the U.S., and even in the U-K and Australia. They were winners of two major awards at the 2013 Canadian Folk Music Awards - Vocal Group of the Year and Ensemble of the Year for the album "Live at Revolution." They have also appeared at the Mariposa and Hillside Festivals and the Montreal Jazz Festival and have shared the stage with Broken Social Scene, Kathleen Edwards, and Jill Barber. The band includes Kerri Ough on guitar and vocals, Sue Passmore on mandolin and vocals, Caroline Brooks on guitar and vocals, and "man Lovely" Paul Matthew on upright bass.
