The Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris this month have heightened Islamophobia. Over the past several years, comedian Negin Farsad has been fighting Muslim stereotypes over the past several years through jokes. She directed the movie The Muslims Are Coming! which follows a group of Muslim-American comedians as they tour, do shows, meet the locals and fight stereotypes.
Farsad was born in the U.S. to Iranian parents and grew up in Palm Springs, California. She was a policy advisor for New York City, before starting a career in comedy. She’s written and developed series for MTV, PBS and Nickelodeon. She’s also a TED fellow.
Farsad is speaking this evening at 7:00 at the University of South Dakota on "Comedic Justice" in the Muenster University Center ballroom. She’s the keynote speaker as a part of the Center for Academic Engagement’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day events.
She joined Dakota Midday and discussed her social justice comedy.
