Through original compositions and traditional songs, the four musicians of Shanren mix their indigenous music with modern styles from around the world. Shanren comes from southwestern China and the musicians describe their music as Chinese ethnic reggae rock fusion.
Shanren is in Sisseton this week as a part of a tour sponsored by Arts Midwest World Fest. The musicians are presenting workshops with students in Sisseton and their residency will culminate with a public performance Friday evening at the Sisseton Performing Arts Center.
The band’s interpreter and manager, Samuel Debell, joined Dakota Midday from the Tiospa Zina Tribal School discussed the band's history on music.
