In August of 1944, the creation of Smokey Bear was authorized by the Forest Service. The Smokey Bear Wildfire Prevention Campaign is the longest-running public service advertising campaign in U.S. history, educating many about their role in preventing wildfires.

Jay Esperance, South Dakota's Wildland Fire Director, joins In The Moment. 

Lori Walsh is a special correspondent with SDPB and host of the "In the Moment" podcast.
