Augustana Choir celebrates 100 years

Augustana University

This interview posted above is from SDPB's daily public-affairs show, In the Moment, hosted by Lori Walsh.

Augustana University's school of music is celebrating its choir's 100th Anniversary. Founded by Dr. Carl Youngdahl in 1921, the choir aims to "Serve God, the Church and our School."

Today, Dr. Paul Nesheim is taking the helm of the Augustana choir and is directing sacred music and rich traditions for a new generation of students.

Here's a recording from Augustana Choir's 2021 Vespers concert: Awake! Awake and Greet the New Morn, recorded November 2021.

Events are happening this weekend which celebrate the choir's past, present and future. A concert, "A Sermon in Song," will be held Friday at the Washington Pavilion.

Carl Norquist is a producer and writer for In the Moment. An EMMY-winning producer, Carl previously worked for KTIV News 4 in Sioux City, IA. Carl is a Minnesota native and graduate of Augustana University with majors in Art and English.
