The Great Plains Zoo and The Butterfly House and Aquarium are uniting under a single governing body.
A zoo spokesperson says the boards of both organizations unanimously approved the merger. The united board will be called the Sioux Falls Zoo and Aquarium Board of Directors. This will take place on the first of next year.
Both attractions will continue to operate separately. There are plans to renovate the Great Plains Zoo at its current location over the next few years.
Their spokesperson says the Great Plains Zoo is home to over 500 species of animals and The Butterfly House and aquarium is the only public saltwater aquarium in the Midwest.
