Updates to digital resources about Mount Rushmore National Memorial launch Memorial Day Weekend.

The start of the summer tourism season means the monument’s operating hours will be extended by five hours. The visitor center will close at 10 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. The sculptor studio will open for the season but close at 8 p.m.

Throughout the day across the location the memorial plans to have several events, including ranger talks, various cultural demonstrations and sculptor studio presentations. Per the traditions of the memorial, the end of each day’s events will be marked by turning on the lights to illuminate the mountain’s faces.

“Interpretive programming is one of the fundamental services provided by National Park Service sites nationwide,” said program manager Earl Perez-Foust. “Ranger programs provide an opportunity for visitors to connect emotionally and intellectually to their shared national heritage.”
