Officials remind public to follow firework ordinances

South Dakota Tourism

With Independence Day right around the corner, officials are reminding the public to follow laws and have a safe Fourth.

Forest officials remind residents that fireworks are illegal in the Black Hills Fire Protection District. Discharging projectile fireworks is also illegal within city limits of many communities, including Rapid City, Sioux Falls and Brookings.

There are other ways to celebrate the patriotic holiday though, including events across the state that are expecting flyovers from the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth Air Force Base.

B-1B flyovers are scheduled for the Independence Day parades in Custer, Piedmont, Hot Springs, Belle Fourche, the Gold Camp flag raising ceremony in Lead, and the 4th of July celebrations in Fort Pierre and Spearfish.
