This interview originally aired on "In the Moment" on SDPB Radio.

Construction begins soon on a memorial to about 50 children. Those children died at a former government-run Indian boarding school. They are buried in unmarked graves.

SDPB's Lee Strubinger spoke with Amy Sazue, director of Remembering the Children.

Her organization is part of a larger effort to document a post-World War II land transfer that pushed Native Americans from what's now considered west Rapid City into North Rapid.

Sazue says that move is important to understanding Rapid City race relations today.

Lee Strubinger is SDPB’s Rapid City-based politics and public policy reporter. Lee is a two-time national Edward R. Murrow Award winning reporter. He holds a master’s in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois-Springfield.
