Ava McMahan, a fifth grade student at Redfield School District, has won the state Department of Agriculture and Natural Resource Arbor Day Poster Contest.
Contest officials selected McMahan’s poster from more than 700 entries across the state.
The theme of this year's contest was “Trees in Television." McMahan receives a $125 cash prize and a certificate of achievement.
Paulus Waldner of Hillcrest Colony School in Garden City and Ruth Oumba Ngoma of Frontier Elementary in Tea garnered second- and third-places. The top 12 students also earned a spot in the Arbor Day Poster Contest Calendar.
Officials said the contest is designed to highlight the importance of Arbor Day and tree planting.
