The South Dakota State Library is moving forward with an agreement aiming to make digital materials more accessible across the state.
It’s called the Reciprocal Lending Agreement. It involves the South Dakota Titles To Go eBook Consortium, the Black Hills Digital Library Consortium and Siouxland Libraries.
The agreement allows cardholders from participating libraries to borrow eBooks and audiobooks from other libraries. The digital library company OverDrive is providing support for the service.
“This agreement represents a major step forward in collaboration among South Dakota libraries,” said George Seamon, South Dakota State Librarian. “By working together, we can provide more content to readers, fostering literacy and learning across our communities.”
The Black Hills Digital Library Consortium is a digital resource network that serves 10 libraries in the Black Hills region, according to a press release. Siouxland Libraries serve a population of over 200,000 individual, while the SDTTG Consortium serves 80 members statewide.
Patrons will use the Libby app to add participating libraries as “visitors,” enabling them to browse and borrow from partner collections. Officials say libraries will provide guidance to help users access materials. More information is available on the state library's website.
