NATIVE AMERICAN MUSIC ASSOCIATION AWARDS ON SDPB-TV
Pine Ridge’s Black Bear Brothers win “Debut Group of the Year”
(VERMILLION, SD) – The 17th annual Native American Music Awards (NAMMYs) airs Friday, February 9, at 9pm (8 MT) on SDPB-TV.
The awards were held Oct. 14, 2017 in Niagara Falls, NY.
The Black Bear Brothers, Emmanuel and Tim Black Bear, (Oglala Lakota), of Pine Ridge, won 2017 New/Debut Artist of the Year with Songs from Cheyenne Creek, produced by RezWest/KILI.
Brandis Knudsen, also known as B. of Dakota South Records, (Yankton Sioux), of Rapid City, was nominated for a 2017 NAMMY for Best Video-Conceptual for “Come and Get Your Love,” from Dakota South Records. “Come and Get Your Love” features an authorized sample of the 1974 Top 5 Billboard 100 Single “Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone.
Brandis Knudsen also introduced a performance by brothers Lil Mike and Funny Bone, (Pawnee/Choctaw), winners of the 2016 NAMMY for Group of the Year. Brandis Knudsen won the 2016 NAMMY for Single of the Year for “Come and Get Your Love” from Dakota South Records.
JuQ, also known as Wanbli Ceya, (Oglala Lakota), of Red Shirt, was nominated for a 2017 NAMMY for Best Pop Recording for “Tempo: A Short Story by JuQ,” produced by Dakota South Records.
Over 18,500 individual voters participated in the NAMA’s national voting campaign.
