Holiday travelers are getting some relief as South Dakota's average cost for a gallon of gas falls below $3 per gallon.

The state's average fell 13 cents $2.98 Monday, according to GasBuddy's latest survey of more than 600 gas stations across the state.

That’s nearly 50 cents cheaper than a month ago, and 20 cents lower than this time last year.

Nationwide, the average gas price is around $3.09. GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan said that's the lowest it has been in 18 months. Diesel prices also fell, but the national average is still around $4.77 per gallon.
