South Dakota has maintained its AAA credit rating.
The state’s diverse economy, strong reserves and history of a balanced budget continue to keep the rating strong, according to Fitch Ratings. AAA is the highest rating the organization awards.
A state’s credit rating is similar to a personal credit score. A better rating makes it easier to get loans – and to get better interest rate on those loans.
"South Dakota's conservative fiscal policies work. They make our people more prosperous and our government more efficient- and this rating reaffirms those facts," said Governor Kristi Noem.
