Sioux Falls is hosting its eighth annual Citizen Planning Academy. The academy provides residents the opportunity to learn about city planning and development.
Jeff Schmitt is the Planning Projects Coordinator for the City of Sioux Falls. He said the academy remains a free event for residents who sign up.
“We’ll have a variety of topics that we continue to do, the variety of topics are in regard to planning, zoning, growth management, infrastructure, housing, transportation. Then any of those community quality of life issues. It’s kind of a 101 class for planning and development for citizens,” said Schmitt.
The academy is held over two evening sessions in October. And is available in person and online.
“We’re going to be going from 80 square miles to 130 square miles of population. The citizens can help us understand that and show how we want to plan and develop in the areas. We always encourage our citizens to get more involved and more engaged in how the city grows and how it should grow through these different aspects, again, of housing, transportation, infrastructure,” said Schmitt.
Staff from the City’s planning and Development Services department will lead the lessons.
