Production in the state’s only active gold is at its highest point since 2016.

Coeur Wharf officials say the mine produced 98,042 ounces of gold in 2024. That’s a nearly 5,000 ounce jump in production from 2023.

The company announced the total gold mined during a Board of Minerals and Environment meeting on Thursday.

Company officials say the Wharf mine also produced 232,013 ounces of silver, which is down from the year prior.

It remitted nearly $12.5 million in state severance taxes.

Wharf is an open-pit mine that uses a heap-leach method —which involves treating crushed ore with a cyanide solution to extract minerals.

Another company is hoping to open a similar mine in the northern hills. Earlier this year, Dakota Gold announced it believes they’ve identified a 3.65 million ounce resource at Richmond Hill.

That’s the same amount that Wharf has produced since 1982.
