Reid Rasner, the man behind a $47 billion proposal to purchase the social media app Tik Tok, speaks at a press conference in Madison, South Dakota, on May 23, 2025.

A Wyoming businessman said he is pausing an offer to purchase the social media app Tik Tok.

If bought, Reid Rasner previously said it could possibly place some operations in South Dakota.

Rasner said his offer is on pause “unless China makes substantial changes” and if ByteDance includes the original Tiktok algorithm.

Rasner claims to have a bid prepared over $47 billion. A South Dakota Searchlight investigation called that into question.

However, the Wyoming businessman refutes the claim, saying the bid is “fully funded.”

Earlier this month, Reuters reported President Donald Trump said the US “pretty much” has a deal on the app’s sale with China.
